Art CareersThese days it is easier than ever and harder than ever to have an art career. What do I mean by that? The art careers available to individuals are expanding at an ever increasing rate. There are forms of art that didn't even exist in the past(think digital) and ancient arts can be still practiced,or even revived. The competition has also increased. Thanks to the internet, your market may be global, but you are also competing against artists throughout the world. Somebody probably does what you do and is selling it for less. There are many roads to choose when considering an art careers. The artist can go along a traditional path, majoring in art at the university level, seeking mentors, gallery representation, teaching, or public art careers. The artist may choose to create his or her own path. Self-taught artists can be just as successful as formally trained artists. They may lack the support system, but also enjoy more freedom than their academic counterparts. You can have an art career without actually being an artist. You may be the one representing or promoting an artist, or have a collection of works to sell. 
As with anything else in life, you get your rewards in proportion to what you are willing to put into it. Some people may appear to have overnight success, but there is usually a lot of work that has gone into it. Establish clearly in your mind's eye what it is that you really want to do.
